Two of Canada's proudest moments from the War of 1812 were thebattles of Ch teauguay and Crysler's Farm. Dubbed "The Hero of Ch teauguay", Lieutenant Colonel Charles-Michel de Salaberry was a distinguished British Army commander who vaulted into history at the Battle of Ch teauguay in October 1813, when he and his outnumbered Voltigeurs forced thousands of American forces attempting to capture the city of Montr al to retreat. This was the first of several victories thatprevented American plans to take Montr al-including Crysler's Farm in November 1813.

Your coin is an unparalleled and world-renowned achievement that features faithful reproductions of two pieces of historical works by Canadian artists, each commemorating two key battles from the War of 1812.
The upper portion of the coin features a section from Sherriff-Scott's mural, Climax of the Action at Crysler's Farm, which depicts the battle of November 11, 1813. It is a powerful image of heavily outnumbered Canadian troops forcing the American invaders across the field in defeat. The lower part of the coin's reverse featuresthe central portion of Henri Julien's Bataille de Ch_teauguay.The image is a portrayal of de Salaberry rallying his diverse and united troops in battle.
Both images are cropped in a manner that echoes the map of UpperCanada with the northeastward flow of the St. Lawrence and its two British Strongholds-Kingston and Montr al.
