The majestic bald eagle-Haliaeetus leucocephalus-is Canada's largest bird of prey and the only eagle exclusive to North America. An apex predator with no natural enemies, the bald eagle has long been a potent symbol of vision, power and stoicism.
The reverse design by Canadian artist Claudio D'Angelo features a halting image of a bald eagle in flight, its wings forward and claws flexed as it prepares to pounce upon prey below. Viewed from its left side, the fierce raptor is a portrait of power in motion. Its sharp, curved beak sits partway open while the eagle tilts its iconic white head slightly downward to fix its gaze on its quarry. Its dark body is curved in on itself as the eagle brings its strong legs forward, uncurling its sharp claws as it prepares to pounce. The eagle's tail feathers and vast wings are splayed and curved inward, slowing the momentum of the bird's incredible flight speed. This portrait is set against the eagle's natural habitat. In the background we see a remote waterway lined on the left by high foothills swathed in tall conifers. In the distance, in the lower right portion of the image, lies a rocky shore dotted with pines.
