The Royal Canadian Mint proudly celebrates the rich cultural heritage of Chinese Canadians with this beautifully intricate silver coin. The use of traditional symbolism in this Asian-inspired design conveys a blessing of longevity Ãone of the important life blessings in ancient Chinese beliefsà upon the coin's owner.
This silver coin is the sixth in the Royal Canadian Mint's renowned series of Asian-inspired coins that bear a hologram of a maple leaf. Unique selective hologram and captivating style make this an excellent addition to any collection.
The people of ancient China believed that cranes, like turtles, could live for centuries; in reality, a crane's average lifespan is about 25 years à that's still a long time for a bird!
Canadian artist Simon Ng has artfully combined numerous Chinese symbols that traditionally depict "longevity" in the reverse image. At the centre, two cranes are viewed in profile as they stand with outstretched wings on a grassy mound. The revered birds are flanked by a pair of tortoises at the bottom left of the image, and two chrysanthemums à the flower of immortality à at the right. Stylized flowers that bloom throughout the seasons surround these symbolic elements, thereby extending this blessing for the entire year. The foremost crane's outstretched wings and neck encircle a selective hologram of a maple leaf above it.
